Band Bio

The Rock Dogs are Dale Loper (guitar, vocals), Dan Brennan-Combs (drums) and Tom Mercer (bass, vocals). The trio has been working together for years without any personnel changes. This kind of stability is rare, and the band members say it's due to several factors, but mainly, it's because all three musicians share a common philosophy – Music performance is not about the musicians’ egos: Instead, it’s about the people who come out looking for a good time. If the band gives the people what they've come in for, it's not long before the room is rockin.'

The band strives to deliver up-beat, danceable rock & roll, performing material ranging from alternative and classic rock to originals and spontaneous jams, with Dale and Tom trading lead vocals throughout the performance. "The Rock Dogs enjoy a great "energy dialog" with the audience," notes Tom, the band’s bassist. "Having that give-and-take with the people in the room always boosts the energy flow -- it shrinks the space between the band and the audience, making it that much easier for everyone to have fun."  And The Rock Dogs do have fun, whether it's in the form of "Wig Night," or inviting folks up onstage to supply background vocals.

Prompted for a brief performance resume, guitarist Dale Loper notes that The Rock Dogs have performed all over the region, including numerous road houses, The Sundeck on Aspen Mountain, Carbondale’s Mountain Fair, Glenwood Springs' Strawberry Days Festival, Woody’s in Moab, Redstone Castle, The Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs, flatbed trailers in the middle of "Main Street," The Silvertree Hotel in Snowmass Village and loads of weddings and private parties."

When asked what sets the band apart from other groups in the area, Dan, the drummer, suggests that folks put on their dancing shoes and come in to see for themselves. "We take a lot of care in selecting the songs we play," says Dan. "It’s important to select material that can be arranged for a trio without sacrificing the original song’s energy and feeling."
